Lake Chany is fed mainly by snow, and the water level varies by approximately 3 m. The lake freezes over in the second half of October or the first half of November, and the ice breaks up in May. There is local navigation. Fish caught in the lake include Siberian roach, pike, Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis), crucian carp, and the carp Cyprinus carpio.
