The city is famous for the Grand Chateau de Chantilly, which was erected between 1527 and 1530 under the direction of the architect P. Chambiges in the French Renaissance style. The château passed to the Condé family in 1643 and was thereafter gradually rebuilt according to the plans of F. Mansart and other architects, such as A. Lenôtre, who designed the park.
