Cache Valley virus
A negative-sense, single-stranded RNA virus of the Bunyaviridae family, genus Orthobunyavirus, Bunyamwera virus group serotype, which was first isolated in Utah and has been found in the rest of the US, especially the Midwest. It is mosquito-borne and causes outbreaks of spontaneous abortion, congenital malformations—e.g., musculoskeletal and CNS defects in sheep during lambing season. It may rarely infect humans, causing severe encephalitis and multiorgan failure.Vector
