cut and paste[¦kət ən ′pāst] (computer science) An editing function of a word processing system in which a portion of text is marked with a particular character at the beginning and at the end and is then copied to another location within the text. Also known as block move. cut and pastecopy and pastecut and pasteTo move files, folders and selected text to another location. Cut removes the item from its current location and places it into the clipboard. Paste inserts the current clipboard contents into the new location.
