Demavend

an extinct volcano in the Elburz Range. Elevation, 5,604 m (the highest peak in Iran). Mount Demavend’s gently sloping cone rises 1.5 km above the crest of the Elburz Range. It is composed chiefly of andesitic lavas and is partially covered by glaciers. There are vents of hot gases, as well as mud and sulfur springs, on the slopes. Many Persian legends are about Mount Demavend.
