Accutin

Accutin

A short-chain disintegrin obtained from Agkistrodon acutus venom, which is homologous to other disintegrins. Accutin inhibits platelet aggregation stimulated by ADP, collagen, thrombin or thromboxane analogues by blocking fibrinogen binding to platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa in a dose-dependent fashion. Accutin’s RGD sequence is responsible for inhibiting adhesion of umbilical vein endothelial cells to immobilised fibrinogen, fibronectin and vitronectin. It effectively blocks angiogenesis and induces cell death by apoptosis.
