Ch’angpai Shan

(in Korean, Paektu-san), a volcanic plateau in the Manchurian-Korean Mountains, situated mainly in China and partly in the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea. The Ch’angpai Shan has elevations ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 m, with a maximum of 2,750 m at the volcano Pait’ou Shan. It is deeply dissected by the Yalu, Man, and Turnen rivers and their tributaries. Coniferous forests and dwarf cedar thickets grow on the plateau.
