eosinophilic bronchitis


eosinophilic bronchitis

a condition consisting of cough unassociated with bronchial hyperreactivity or bronchial obstruction, in which increased numbers of eosinophils are present in the sputum. It is considered to be a cause of chronic cough and is not thought to be related to other eosinophilic lung disease.

eosinophilic bronchitis

Bronchitis marked by chronic cough, eosinophils in sputum, and improvement in symptoms after the administration of corticosteroids. It is similar to asthma, but there is no wheezing or airway reactivity, and the airways are not infiltrated by mast cells. See also: bronchitis
