Imaging A focus of ↓ radioisotope uptake on a 123I or 99mTc scintillation scan of the thyroid, seen in cystic or solid, often nonfunctional lesions; when the mass is solid by ultrasound, a biopsy is warranted as most carcinomas are cold nodules. Cf Hot nodule, Warm nodule.
