C0236300 (chăn′sə-lərz-vĭl′, -slərz-) A former town of northeast Virginia west of Fredericksburg. It was the site of a major Civil War battle (May 1-5, 1863) in which the Confederates under Robert E. Lee defeated the Union forces commanded by Joseph Hooker. Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded in the battle.
