Böheim, Hans

Böheim, Hans

(also Hans the Piper). Died in 1476. Shepherd and musician. Folk preacher. Inspirer of the peasant movement of 1476 in the valley of the Tauber River in Franconia (Central Germany). Böheim presented an openly antifeudal program, and his sermons gave rise to pilgrimages from all of central and southern Germany to the village of Niklashausen, where he preached. He was arrested by the bishop of Würzburg and burned.
