Chamber Collegium
Chamber Collegium
a central state institution in 18th-century Russia created by Peter I in 1721. It was in charge of state revenues; state contracts; farming out revenues; the sale of state goods; state distilleries; fish and tallow production; the construction of state buildings, roads, and bridges; and customs. The organs of the Chamber Collegium were the local chamber offices until 1727, and later provincial and voevodstvo (territories under military governors) offices. With the reform of the provinces in 1775, the collection of many state revenues was transferred to provincial revenue departments; this led to the closing of the Chamber Collegium and other collegiums in 1784. The Chamber Collegium was revived in 1797 and abolished once and for all in 1801.
