释义 | CohoesCohoes(kəhōz`), city (1990 pop. 16,825), Albany co., E N.Y., near Albany, at the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers; settled by the Dutch 1665, inc. 1869. A retailing and outlet center, its manufactures include textiles (made there since 1840), knitted goods, cabinetry, and plastic and paper products. The world's first power-operated knitting mill was opened there in 1832. The Van Schaick Mansion (1735), now a museum, was used as headquarters by Gen. Horatio Gates during the Revolutionary War. |
