Converter Matte

an intermediate product (a nonferrous sulfide) in metallurgy, obtained during converter blowing of mattes. According to chemical composition, converter matte may be copper matte (Cu₂S), nickel matte (Ni₃S₂), or cupronickel matte (Cu₂S and Ni₃S₂). Copper matte is usually called white matte. Cupronickel matte is separated into copper sulfide and nickel sulfide concentrates by flotation before it is converted to metal.
