(Lynn Russell Chadwick), 1914–2003, English sculptor. After studying architecture, Chadwick began his career as a sculptor in 1945, working largely in metal. He came to international attention when he represented Great Britain in the 1952 Venice Biennale and when he was awarded the International Sculpture Prize at the 1956 Biennale. Chadwick first produced wire mobilesmobile, a type of moving sculptural artwork developed by Alexander Calder in 1932 and named by Marcel Duchamp. Among these sculptures, many of which have been placed in outdoor settings, the monumental bronzes Three Elektras (1969) and Two Seated Figures (1973) and the stainless steel Crouching Beast I (1990).
