Location:On the North Platte River, east of Rawlins, off I-80.

Special Features:Fort Fred Steele was established June 30, 1868 and occupied until August 7, 1886 by soldiers who were sent by the U.S. government to guard the railroad against attack. For many years, its served as a center for the sheep industry. Remnants of the company town called the Carbon Timber Company remain on the east side of the river.
