Coffin, Sir Isaac,

1759–1839, British naval officer, b. Boston, Mass. From a loyalist family, he fought for the British in the American Revolution and in the French Revolutionary Wars; at the end of his career held several dockyard commands. After the Revolution, he held the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence through a grant for a time. He later served (1818–26) in Parliament.
