C-gene

C-gene

a GENE that codes for the constant regions of a particular class of IMMUNOGLOBULINS. A C-gene joins with V-GENES, D-GENES and J-GENES (which code for the variable regions of the immunoglobulin) in various combinations, through DNA rearrangements. In this way the large number of different ANTIBODIES produced in the IMMUNE RESPONSE can be coded for by the GENOME.
