Delahanty, (Edward James) Ed

(1867–1903) baseball player; born in Cleveland, Ohio. One of five brothers who played major league baseball, he was one of baseball's first genuine sluggers during its dead ball era. He was an outfielder for 16 years (1888–1903), mostly with Philadelphia. He died when, possibly drunk, he fell off a bridge and was swept over Niagara Falls. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1945.
