busy dermis

A nonspecific term of art referring to a dermis which at low power scanning magnification is focally hypercellular (i.e., “busy”), largely due to proliferating vessels, fibroblasts and lymphocytes, in a mucinous background.
Examples
Incomplete granuloma annulare, interstitial granulomatous dermatitis or drug reaction, acute vasculitis, folliculitis, breast carcinoma recurrence, desmoplastic melanoma, early Kaposi sarcoma.
