(or cyclohexadienyne), a highly reactive compound that has not been isolated in pure form. The hypothesis of the existence of dehydrobenzene is of significance not only theoretically but also practically because it explains the mechanism for a number of important industrial processes, such as the preparation of phenols and aromatic amines from halogen derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons.
