Bussi de Allende, Hortensia

Born July 22, 1915, in Valparaíso. Chilean public figure and figure in the international women’s democratic movement. Wife of S. Allende Gossens.

The daughter of an Italian immigrant, Bussi de Allende graduated from the faculty of education of the University of Chile and became a schoolteacher. In 1972 she was made honorary vice-president of the Women’s International Democratic Federation. After the fascist military coup of September 1973, Bussi de Allende emigrated. She took part in the first and third sessions of the International Commission to Investigate the Crimes of the Chilean Junta.

Bussi de Allende received the International Lenin Prize for Strengthening Peace Among Nations in 1977.
