释义 | busingenUKbus·ingor bus·sing B0574500 (bŭs′ĭng)busing(ˈbʌsɪŋ) orbussingbus•ingor bus•sing(ˈbʌs ɪŋ)n. busingenUKbusingthe transportation by bus of children of a particular ethnic group from one residential area into another residential area of different ethnic mix, with the aim of achieving an ethnic or ‘racial’ balance in schools. The term has its origin in the US, and the practice has been largely confined to that country.Busing began after the 1954 Supreme Court ruling (Brown v. Board of Education) that segregated education was illegal in the US and that separate facilities for BLACK and white children could not provide equal opportunities. As a means of creating equal educational opportunity busing has been the subject of fierce controversy in the US. Busing was introduced on a very small scale within a few Local Education Authorities in the UK in the 1970s, but was soon abandoned. It is now being used in South Africa. |
