Foundation for Research on the Nature of Man, The
Foundation for Research on the Nature of Man, The
(religion, spiritualism, and occult)A nonprofit research facility founded in 1962 by Dr. Joseph Banks Rhine and his wife Louisa E. Rhine. It was an outgrowth of the former Parapsychology Laboratory at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and is intended to act as a clearinghouse for research information and a training base for those studying psi. The Foundation publishes the quarterly Journal of Parapsychology. Dr. Rhine started his research at Duke University in 1935, but moved his studies to the Foundation in 1962, believing that an independent, privately funded organization would give more freedom to his work. In 1995, to honor the 100th anniversary of Rhine’s birth, the Foundation was renamed the Rhine Research Center.
