coccygeus coccygeus [kok-sij´e-us] pertaining to the coccyx.coc·cyg·e·us mus·cle [TA] striated pelvic muscle associated with the deep (pelvic) aspect of the sacrospinous ligament, forming part of the pelvic diaphragm; origin, spine of ischium and sacrospinous ligament; insertion, sides of lower part of sacrum and upper part of coccyx; action, with the sacrospinous ligament assists in support of pelvic floor, theoretically increasingly so when intra-abdominal pressures increase; nerve supply, third and fourth sacral.
