Coburgs

Coburgs

(Saxe-Coburg-Gotha), the dynasty of monarchs in Bulgaria from 1887 to 1946. The founder of the dynasty was Ferdinand I, scion of the German princely family of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, who ruled as prince from 1887 to 1908 and as tsar from 1908 to 1918. His successors were Boris III (1918–43) and Simeon II (1943–46). Because Simeon was too young to rule, a council of regents was established for his reign. The success of the September Popular Armed Uprising of 1944 led to the liquidation, which took place officially on Sept. 15, 1946, of the Bulgarian monarchy.
