allotype

Immunology
An inherited set of determinants or sequence of amino acids (e.g., on an immunoglobulin—Ig) and other proteins demonstrating heterogeneity, which is specific for an individual and more common in a racial group.
In humans, Ig light-chain allotypes are designated as Km (Inv) allotypes and heavy-chain allotypes as Gm allotypes.
Molecular biology
A protein or other biomolecular variant arising from genetic differences between individuals of the same species.

allotype

An inherited set of determinants or sequence of amino acids–eg, on an Ig–and other proteins demonstrating heterogeneity, which is specific for an individual and more common in a racial group. Cf Idiotype, Isotype.

allotype

An allelic variant of an antigen which can prove immunogenic in people with a different version of the allele.

allotype

An allelic variant of an ANTIGEN. Such a variant may elicit an immune response in an apparently normal person.

allotype

one of a range of ANTIBODIES containing different sequences of amino acids but all having an area with an identical amino acid sequence and thought to be produced by different alleles of the same gene (see MULTIPLE ALLELISM).
