Forbes, Esther

(1891–1967) writer; born in Westborough, Mass. She studied at the University of Wisconsin (1916–18), and worked as an editor for Houghton Mifflin in Boston (1920–26, 1942–46). Although she wrote some straightforward history works for adults, she is best known for her historical novels for young readers, such as Johnny Tremain (1943).
