Dvina Inlet

(Dvina Bay), an inlet in the southeastern part of the White Sea. Length. 93 km; width, at its entrance, 130 km. Its depth ranges from 15–22 m to 120 m (in the north west). Its flow is dependent chiefly on river flow and tides. It freezes over in the winter. In the summer, the Dvina Inlet contains the warmest water in the White Sea (up to 12° C). The 12-hour tides reach a height of approximately 1.4 m. The Severnaia Dvina empties into the Dvina Inlet; on its delta are the ports of Arkhangel’sk and Severodvinsk.
