Family Community

(household community), one of the basic economic and social units of the period of the disintegration of the primitive communal system. The family community consisted of three to five or more generations of immediate relatives, who jointly owned the land, the implements of production, domestic livestock, and other economic property and engaged jointly in production and consumption. Modified, later forms of the family community survived among the rural population and in certain class societies.
