Busch, August Anheuser, III

(1937– ) brewer; born in St. Louis, Mo. He joined the family firm, Anheuser-Busch, in 1957 and rose through management, becoming vice-president and general manager (1965–74), president (1975–79), CEO (1975) and chairman (1977). He was also chairman and president of Anheuser Busch Companies, Inc. (1979). During his tenure, the firm greatly increased its marketing budget and promotional tactics, became a major advertiser on television and made its Budweiser brand consistently one of the best-selling beers in America.
