Evropeets

Evropeets

(The European), a Russian “journal of learning and letters” published in Moscow in 1832. The magazine was edited and published by I. V. Kireevskii. Publication was stopped after the appearance of the second issue. Contributors to Evropeets included E. A. Baratynskii, V. A. Zhukovskii, N. M. lazykov, and A. S. Khomiakov. In the article entitled “The Nineteenth Century,” which reflected the opinions of the journal, Kireevskii affirmed that there was not a contradiction but a unity between the uniqueness of Russian life and Europeanization.
