Burton, Harold (Hitz)

(1888–1964) mayor, U.S. senator, Supreme Court justice; born in Jamaica Plain, Mass. Active in Republican politics, he served three terms as mayor of Cleveland, Ohio (1935–40) before he was elected to the U.S. Senate (Rep., Ohio; 1940) and then named by President Truman to the U.S. Supreme Court (1945–58).
