释义 | Burrows, WilliamBurrows, William (Ward)(1758–1805) marine officer; born in Charleston, S.C. A Revolutionary War veteran, he practiced law in Philadelphia during the 1790s and returned to service in July 1798 when President Adams named him first commandant of the newly formed Marine Corps. After overseeing the early development of the service, Burrows retired in 1804. |
