Cuestas
Cuestas
asymetrical ridges and scarps in the relief, formed as a result of the erosion of bedding inclined in a single direction (monoclinal bedding) and consisting of alternating beds of differing hardness. The gentle slope of the cuesta conforms with the dip of the resistant beds; the steep slope exposes the upper edges of the beds. Cuestas are usually located on the limbs of large folds or domes. Cuestas are found in the USSR (northern Caucasus and Crimea), France (Paris basin), and elsewhere.
