Emergency Care Practitioner

A relatively new role in the NHS (UK), filled by paramedics who have received additional training at diploma, degree or postgraduate level in physical assessment, minor illnesses, minor injuries, working with the elderly, paediatric assessment, mental health and pharmacology. ECPs are trained to safely treat patients at home or refer them on to more appropriate care. ECPs carry fast response and ambulance kits, as well as additional equipment and drugs (antibiotics, analgesics, antihistamines).
