(fĭrō`zäbäd'), town (1991 pop. 270,536), Uttar Pradesh state, N central India. It is India's chief producer of glass bangles. Electrical, leather, and cotton goods are also manufactured. Firozabad is the administrative center of a district that grows cotton and grain. An ancient city on the site was destroyed by Muslims in the 16th cent. and rebuilt by Mughal emperor AkbarAkbar, 1542–1605, Mughal emperor of India (1556–1605); son of Humayun, grandson of Babur.
