Burkatskaia, Galina Evgen’evna

 

Born Dec. 4 (17), 1916, in the village of Geronimovka, now Cherkassy Raion, Cherkassy Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Activist in the collective farm movement, chairman of the Radians’ka Ukraina collective farm, Cherkassy Raion, Cherkassy Oblast, Ukrainian SSR (1949-67). Twice Hero of Socialist Labor (1951, 1958). Member of the CPSU since 1946.

Burkatskaia graduated from the Artem Communist University of Kharkov (1938) and the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (1956). From 1941 to 1944 she was a member of the Serp i molot collective farm, Pervomaiskii Raion, Saratov Oblast, and from 1944 she was a member of the Radians’ka Ukraina collective farm. Under her leadership the collective farm attained high production levels (a wheat crop of 25 centners per hectare). Burkatskaia is a candidate of economic sciences (1967); since 1968 she has been a senior instructor in the subdepartment of labor organization at the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy in Kiev. She was a delegate to the 19th through 22nd congresses of the CPSU. At the 22nd Congress of the CPSU she was elected a member of the central auditing commission. She was a deputy to the third through sixth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. She has been decorated with two Orders of Lenin, an Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
