ceramidase

ceramidase

[sĕ-ram´ĭ-dās] an enzyme occurring in most mammalian tissue that catalyzes the reversible acylation (incorporation of an acid radical) and deacylation (loss of an acid radical) in ceramides.

cer·am·i·dase

(ser-am'i-dās), An enzyme that hydrolyzes ceramides into sphingosine and a fatty acid; acylsphingosine deacylase. A deficiency of this enzyme is associated with disseminated lepogranulomatosis.
