financial aid officer misleading

Question

Country: United States of America
State: OhioI signed up for financial aid for my freshman year in college before the beginning of the quarter on Sept. 12, 2005. The school's financial aid officer left his position and the CEO of the company took over his duties. Since then I have had to re-submit my information 3 times, and it all finally got to the right people just today 12/12/05, after . No one will take responsibility for the lack of organization. I was told upon signing up of previous problem pertaining to financial aid at this facility and was assured that previous problems were taken care of and I would receive my financial aid disbursements within 14 days of starting the 1st quarter. The quarter ends this week 12/16/05. How can I insure that I get my aid for this quarter? And/or what can be done if I do not get it before 12/16/05 or before the next quarter starts 1/2/2006? I feel I have been deceived and there is nothing I can do about it. I was reeling on that money to get me to and from school. I thought that was the whole meaning of "financial aid" and "student loans". Anything you can tell me would be much appreciated. Thank You.

Answer

Based on what you say here, you could probably file suit against them (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to their behavior... You may also report them to your state attorney general's office.
