aggregate function

[¦ag·rə·gət ′fəŋk·shən] (computer science) A command in a database management program that performs an arithmetic operation on the values in a specified column or field in all the records in the database, such as computing their sum or average or counting the number of records that satisfy particular criteria.

aggregate function

A calculation that is made on several records or cells of data. SUM, AVG, MAX, MIN and COUNT are examples of aggregate functions that are used in spreadsheets and database programs.
