British United Provident Association study. A cohort study that screened 21520 men, age 35–64, at the BUPA medical centre in London between 1975 and 1982, in which serum cholesterol was measured at the time of the visit and stored; the NHS Central Register informed BUPA of all deaths—751 from cardiovascular disease, 142 from stroke—subsequent to the visit.Conclusion
BUPA found that BP lowering drugs should be given to all persons with a history of IHD event or stroke, and in persons with no such history, to all persons above a specified age (e.g., age 55).
