flexible labour markets

flexible labour markets

market conditions in which professional and occupational restrictions on the employment and payment of labour are dismantled, e.g. by competitive pressures in the world economy and by government action undermining the powers of TRADE UNIONS. Moves to time-limited contracts, parttime work, the end of lifelong CAREERS and increasing insecurity of employment are all aspects of the process. Flexible labour markets are an aspect of the move to FLEXIBLE PRODUCTION and can be seen as a less humane face of this phenomenon.
