Bume Papa, Rita

 

Born 1906, on the island of Siros. Greek poet. Author of the collections Songs of Love (1930) and The Pulse of My Stillness (1935). During the years of fascist occupation she participated in the resistance. Her verses of that period are included in the collections Athens (1945) and Pitorno in Ortitzia (1949, in Italian; prize of the International Contest in Syracuse, 1950). She has published the collections The Rose of an Encounter (1960), BrightAutumn (1961), Harvest of Flowers in the Desert (1962), A Thousand Girls Executed by Shooting (1963), I Reject Any Other Glory (1964), and Valiant Amazon (1964). She has translated into Greek And Quiet Flows the Don by M. Sholokhov and verses by A. Blok, S. Esenin, A. Akhmatova, and B. Pasternak.
