Aotus
Aotus a genus of mammals of the superfamily Platyrrhini. The genus comprises the single species Aotus trivirgatus (douroucouli). The body length measures 24–37 cm, and the tail length 30–40 cm; the weight is 0.6–1 kg. The upper part of the body and the tail are predominantly brownish gray; the face and throat are light. The eyes are very large owing to the animal’s nocturnal habits. The douroucouli is found in the mountain forests of northeastern South America. It feeds on fruits and leaves of trees, on insects, on spiders, on birds, and sometimes, on small mammals. The female bears a single offspring once a year. AOTUS
