Dun, R. G. Dun, R. G. (Robert Graham)(1826–1900) businessman; born in Chillicothe, Ohio. In 1850 he joined the office of Tappan & Douglass, the first mercantile agency in New York City, and he became partner in 1854. By 1861 he was sole owner of R. G. Dun & Company, a credit-rating agency that had domestic branches in several cities. After the war his offices were the first to use typewriters and other print information innovations. In 1893 he instituted Dun's Review, a weekly overview of international business conditions. Later Dun's firm merged to form Dun & Bradstreet, a major business credit-rating and financial services publishing company. |
