Domestic Life

Work or recreation done with or for one's family, however defined. Family has been defined differently at different points in history, as have how social relations within families ought to work. However, many political and economic theories hold that family is the basic building block upon which society is founded and therefore that domestic life is something that ought to be protected by the state. For example, Roman Catholic teaching on social justice assumes that domestic life is a foundational right. Likewise, the right to start and raise a family is guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
