(Bulgarska telegrafna agentsiia—BTA), founded in 1898. Until 1951 the Bulgarian News Agency was a division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 1951 it has been a special institution, a central information institute under the Soviet Ministry of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. It has its own correspondence offices in the large cities of Bulgaria, as well as in the capitals of many other countries (including Moscow, Peking, Delhi, Paris, New York, London, Berlin, Ankara, and Cairo). It provides information on questions of domestic and international life to the newspapers and radio stations of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian News Agency sends comprehensive information abroad, reflecting the economic, political, and cultural life of the Bulgarian people.
