Deep Cultivator

Deep Cultivator

a tool for deep cultivation of soil without mixing it and without harming its surface stubble, used for working soils subject to wind erosion.

The basic parts of the deep cultivator manufactured in the USSR include a frame, a set of surface-cutting teeth, a device for regulating the depth of cultivation, the supporting wheels, and a suspension. The machine completely cuts the roots of weeds at a depth of 12-30 cm. The remaining stubble on the surface holds the snow, protects the soil from wind and water erosion, and promotes the accumulation of moisture. In deep cultivating (up to 30 cm), two sets of surface-cutting teeth with a working width of 1.1 m each are used. For working soil at depths of 8-16 cm, one set of teeth with a working width of 2.5 m is mounted. The productive capacity of the deep cultivator, depending upon its speed and working width, is from 1.5 to 2.8 hectares per hr. It is used with a tractor of the 3-ton class (deep cultivation) or a 1.4-ton class tractor (with one set of teeth).
