The energy consumed by all of the processes associated with the production of a building, landscape, or site, from the acquisition of natural resources to product delivery. This includes the mining and manufacturing of materials and equipment, the transport of the materials, and the administrative functions. Embodied energy is a significant component of the life-cycle impact of a home, building, landscape, or site. Included are the product’s raw material extraction, transport, manufacturing, assembly, and installation, as well as capital and other costs of a specific material, in addition to disassembly, deconstruction, and/ or decomposition.
